Attorney Robert G. Byrom graduated from the Ohio State University with a degree in Business Finance, and went on to earn a Juris Doctorate from the University of Toledo, College of Law.  Bob has been licensed to practice in Ohio state courts since 1977, and is authorized to practice in the Northern and Southern Districts of Ohio.  Bob also holds Ohio High School (OHSAA) officiating licenses in baseball and soccer, where he can be found most evenings and weekends in the spring, summer, and fall.  He has been married for 45 years, with 2 children and 3 grandchildren.

Prior to joining the firm in an “of counsel” capacity in May, 2016, Bob spent 25 years as a senior attorney and consumer unit managing attorney for the Legal Aid Society of Columbus.  During that time, Bob defended consumer rights actions and foreclosures, pursued Chapter 7 bankruptcies, and handled administrative agency matters for constituents, with particular emphasis on unemployment law.  He has presented CLE trainings on unemployment law and practice, and has consulted and advised counsel both in-state and out-of-state on Ohio unemployment issues.  Bob has successfully argued cases before appellate courts across the state of Ohio, and before the Ohio Supreme Court.

Before moving on to the Legal Aid Society, Bob worked as an Assistant Law Director and city prosecutor for the City of Niles, Ohio.  He then spent 8+ years in the legal department of the Ohio Association of Public School Employees, representing non-teaching school employees in statutory rights enforcement and collective bargaining agreement negotiations, interpretations and enforcements, in litigations and arbitrations, as well as defending union members in Civil Service disciplinary actions and State Employment Relations Board appeals.  Following this period, Bob represented teachers while manning a single-person branch office in Akron, Ohio, for the law firm of Green, Haines, Sgambati, Murphy and Macala.
